Is my funeral plan relevant to my will?
The funeral plan has become an accepted method of mitigating funeral costs and managing end of life for many. They take the work and cost of arranging a funeral out of the hands of your executors/family at a time when all too often those tasked with such arrangements are very vulnerable.
But are they relevant to your will? In our humble opinion the answer is yes. If our clients already have a funeral plan or they instruct Assured & Legal to include such in their overall estate plan we would note this in their will in the following manner;
4.2 Funeral Directions
I wish my body to be (cremated or buried) in line with the details to be found in the funeral plan I hold with (Funeral Plan Company) plan number (plan ID) and the wishes known to my executors.
We believe that including the detail in the will acts as a safeguard should the details have been lost, or destroyed in a house fire for example, and can help to avoid a funeral being paid for that has already been paid for.
